Research data are an essential part of scientific work. They form one of the foundations for justifying scientific statements and are the starting point for further research. The correct handling of research data is therefore one of the core responsibilities of scientists.
On the one hand, manipulations of research data are illegal on the other hand, for a good handling of data, in the context of a research data management (RDM), numerous considerations have to be made about the collection, use, documentation, storage and archiving of data. The workshop will provide an introductory overview of both issues, bad and good practice/practices in handling research data.
Target Audience:
The workshop is intended for doctoral candidates in all disciplines who would like to learn more about research data handling.
Methods:
The workshop will be conducted online. The topic requires active engagement from the participants. To this end, and to counter online fatigue, a variety of activities are planned: Various forms of discussions, exercises, and lecture-like presentations will alternate.
Participation Requirements:
Two weeks prior to the workshop, you will be given some preparation tasks to complete by one week before the workshop (approximately 1 hour). The preparation tasks are a prerequisite for obtaining the certificate of attendance.
Lernziele
After attending the workshop
- you will be able to name the types of research data typical for your discipline and know the potential dangers of scientific misconduct when handling them;
- know important regulations regarding scientific misconduct in handling research data;
- know central process steps of research data management (RDM) and be able to apply them to your research process.
