Anmeldung: Introduction to statistical programming with R

IMPORTANT: A technical check will be carried out for this course on 14 September 2026. You can choose to take part at 8:00 a.m. or 8:00 p.m.

R is a flexible and freely available programming language for data preparation and statistical analysis. This course teaches the basics of using R with the help of the RStudio editor. Mostly, the original base-R "dialect" is used, not the more recent tidyverse-framework.

The course consists of these sections:
1. Introduction to R and RStudio
2. Objects, assignments and workspace
3. Dataframes
4. Vectors
5. Univariate descriptive statistics
6. Bivariate descriptive statistics
7. Graphs (very basic!)
8. Subsetting
9. Hypothesis tests (t-test, ANOVA, chi-squared test)
10. Data import and export
11. Outlook for further learning

No programming experience is required, but a basic knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics is helpful.

• Basics of programming with R and RStudio, including dealing with important data structures (vectors, data frames)
• Performing basic uni- and bivariate descriptive statistics
• Conducting t-tests and chi-square tests
• Importing and exporting data
• Finding solutions to programming problems on their own
