Anmeldung: Biostatistics II – Practical Issues and Solutions [ENG]

Conducting scientific research is inevitably connected to methodological decisions and unforeseen problems: How do I choose an appropriate statistical method? How many participants do I need for my study? What do I do when I cannot use my method of choice, for instance because the data are not normally distributed, or my sample is too small? If my analysis does not become significant, can I somehow provide evidence for the absence of an effect? How do I interpret my data in a scientifically sound way?

This course is intended for all those who encounter similar questions in their research and want to learn strategies and methods to solve typical problems. Therefore, we will focus on the following topics (among others):

• Choice of methods
• Power analysis and sample size calculation
• Good practice, common problems, and frequent misconceptions
• Regression modelling and resampling-methods as “all-purpose weapons”
• Interpreting p-values, Bayes Factors and effect sizes

To maximally profit from the workshop, prior participation in the course “Biostatistics I” or a solid knowledge of the respective contents (hypothesis-testing, t-tests, ANOVA, linear regression) is strongly recommended.
