Anmeldung: Biostatistics I – Basics [ENG]

Tackling a statistical problem can be quite challenging, especially if you are relatively new to statistics or if your statistics skills have become somewhat rusty over time. However, most statistical approaches rest on the same foundations and once you gain a solid understanding of just a few essential principles, it will be much easier for you to learn and apply almost any statistical approach.

This course is for all those, who want or need to brush up on their statistics skills but also for researchers who strive for a deeper and more holistic understanding of basic statistical concepts. Amongst others we will cover the following topics:

• Essential concepts (e.g., descriptive statistics, distributions, explaining variance, standard errors, etc.)
• The rationale behind hypothesis testing (and common misconceptions)
• Standard methods like t-Tests, ANOVA and Chi-squared tests
• Regression and the GLM

Complementary exercises will deepen the understanding of the contents and we will explore some free and useful software tools.
